Mike Wangler
Mike is a retired Marine, Pilot, Systems Engineer, and Project Manager with extensive experience across a wide range of tactical and strategic C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) systems. After graduating from the US Naval Academy, he served as a Marine Platoon and Company Commander, with tours in the Fleet Marine Force Pacific and the US Naval Security Group, including deployments to the Asia-Pacific region and the Republic of Korea. His Marine experience included working with Digital Radio, Signals Intelligence, and Electronic Warfare systems in tactical environments, and later, stateside, as a technical trainer/manager.
After his active-duty service, he began a career as a Systems Engineer and later as a Project Manager for Martin Marietta (now part of Lockheed Martin) and Computer Sciences Corporation (now part of DXC Technology). He worked on several aerospace applications and systems, from prototyping order-of-battle management tools and ruggedised handheld computers for the US Army to geospatial mapping and imagery surveillance systems for other customers.
He gained his private pilot license in 1991. Eventually, his work transitioned to developing Internet Applications and then to Supply Chain Management and high-tech manufacturing consulting. Now semi-retired, he has time for one of his greatest passions, writing about military technology and operations. He lives in Upstate NY with his partner, several dogs, and a cat.
